Ramón Vizcaíno Angola is a company established under Angolan Law that belongs to the “Grupo Palm” Spanish Corporate Group, the market leader in cooling and air conditioning in Spain and Portugal.
In summer 2012, Grupo Palm acquired Ramón Vizcaíno Refrigeración SA during its liquidation in bankruptcy proceedings.

Palm manages only the Angolan Company, with all its assets and structures in Angola, and supports the business by providing technicians and engineers, some from our own organisation and some from the old parent company, so that the spirit of the now defunct Ramón Vizcaíno Refrigeración lives on.

Grupo Palm provides RV Angola with technical, logistical and financial support, as well as the products and equipment from other subsidiaries of the Group, to ensure that RV Angola is a benchmark in the Angolan commercial and industrial refrigeration and air conditioning industry.

Refrigeración

Refrigeration is the process of reducing or maintaining a certain temperature in a solid or liquid body. In today’s world, refrigeration is mainly used to keep premises at comfortable temperatures by means of air-conditioning and to preserve and transport food, as well as many other industrial and automotive processes.

Refrigeration of premises we know as Air Conditioning or HVAC, and it is used in offices, factories, corporate buildings, vehicles and means of transportation, and increasingly nowadays in people’s homes. We can say that Air Conditioning is a vital part of ensuring people’s comfort and it is present in our daily lives.



Refrigeration applied to Food Preservation is without a doubt the only solution that allows thousands of millions of people in cities to access food that is cheap, abundant, and healthy and of optimum quality for consumption.

Modern eating is intimately linked to refrigeration, as without refrigeration, food will generally spoil and spontaneously develop bacteria and yeast that can make it unsuitable for consumption. Modern life in megacities would be impossible without the cold chain.

During the process that food goes through from when it is collected in the fields, fished from the sea or taken from the slaughterhouse to when it arrives at our fridges in our homes, the food must be keep refrigerated or frozen at all times.

The process begins at the point of origin where the food is refrigerated or frozen, followed by isothermal transport of the food, followed by placement in the freezers and fridges in supermarkets, finally ending in the fridges and freezers of restaurants and homes; this process is known as the cold chain. 


Not breaking this chain guarantees that the food reaches the consumer with all its original organoleptic (perceived through the senses) properties, such as appearance, smell, taste, texture, etc.

Food safety

Food safety can be said to exist when everyone has at all times physical, social and financial access to enough safe and nutritious food to satisfy their food needs and preferences in order to live an active and healthy life.

This is the definition established by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization UN), which also establishes that safe food means food that is healthy for the population, and this is why food safety is a constant concern of governments and supranational organisations such as the United Nations.



In today’s world, refrigeration provides 100 % food safety and quality, making it a vital industry in our day-to-day life.

Fresh or Refrigerated

Although fresh and refrigerated do not etymologically mean the same thing, the terms are often confused these days because refrigeration is so commonly used to preserve fresh food, as is the case with fresh fish which is kept in ice, or many vegetables and meats which are called fresh and which are kept in fridges at temperatures of between zero and twelve degrees to prevent the growth of bacteria or yeast.

Frozen

Freezing and deep-freezing (freezing in a maximum time of four hours) are the food preservation techniques that are most commonly used in the food and agriculture industry. Properly applied, both techniques ensure that bacteria, enzymes and other microorganisms do not appear in food and, essentially, that the food retains its organoleptic features (smell, texture, taste) and nutritional values when the product is properly defrosted. The food is frozen with air and by means of units formed by cooling compressors, evaporators, condensers and controller units and, depending on the products and the amounts that need to be frozen, some methods and types of equipment are applied over others.

Freezing with this technique is very cost-effective and it is the most commonly used. The freezing time and the efficiency and quality of the units have a considerable influence on the costs of the process and the quality of the product. Deep-freezing is achieved with cooling liquids such as CO2 carbon dioxide and liquid nitrogen. No other type of fluid is permitted by law. With this method, freezing takes place very quickly, but each time some fluid is lost to the atmosphere, which makes the process considerably more expensive.
